KONTRAST presents BEN MORRIS

WHO THE F%..K IS BEN MORRIS????

Ben Morris has forged an inimitable reputation of late. Since joining the KINK team as weekly resident and national touring DJ, Ben has quite rightly been recognised as the musical driving force behind Kinks ongoing success. He is without doubt a rising star in the Australian dance music fraternity. Not only does he play regularly at The Garden, Slip Inn, Moulin Rouge and YU, but he also holds down a monthly residency at the famed Empire Hotel in Brisbane. With musical taste and diversity that spreads across electro, house, minimal tech and smatterings of breaks, his trademark sound is infectious, yet definitely impossible to pigeon hole. Testament to his undeniable technical ability, Ben in 2004 won the NSW heat of the Global Heineken Thirst DJ Competition. In 2005 Ben was voted 24th in the 2005 In the Mix Top 50 DJ competition after just 3 years on the scene. 2006 saw Ben enter the Festival circuit with prestigious bookings including the Boiler Room at Big Day Out, Good Vibrations and the Future Music Festival. His impressive International support list includes: Eric Morillo, Danny Howells, Desyn Massiello, Steve Angello, Tocadisco, Tom Neville, DJ Hyper, King Unique, Paul Woodford, Alex Kidd, Joey Negro, Jacques le Cont, Sharam Jey, Kiko, Yousef, Moguai, Spencer Parker, Lee Cabrera (NYC), Mark Knight, Chris Lum, Gene Farris and French Superstars Cassius, Bob Sinclar, DJ Falcon, David Guetta, David Duriez and Dimitri from Paris. Ben is everything that is fresh, exciting and invigorating about Australias new breed of djs... One to watch

Ben Morris Interview

So how did it all begin?

One of my mates bought dex in 1999. I then fell in love with them and bought my own in 2000. Then I started playing at Soho on a Monday night where a few promoters heard me play and I scored gigs at Mortons and the Globe

What was the first club you ever played at?

Soho

What was your first record/cd you bought?

A few from the first record shop I ever did were:
Binary Finary – 1998
Da Mob – Fun

Out of all the music you have, which track ‘never fails?'

At the moment Cassius – 99 (Tim Green Mix)

What's your favourite track of all time?

Energy 52 – CafĂ© Del Mar (three in one Mix)

Funniest thing that ever happened while Dj’ing?

I had a monitor speaker fall on a turntable once and the good old Technics just kept on playing

Other DJs you rate?

Robbie Lowe
Illya
Those two guys are the best in the country at what they do in my opinion

So how is the party scene in your eyes at the moment?

When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?

Sunday BBQ’s at my house with a few good friends every weekend keeps me sain

What advice would you give to up and coming DJs?

Make sure you have the skills before you start playing gigs.
