Exclusive Rob Zobec Interview Questions

So how did it all begin?

It all began in a bedroom with 2x1210’s, a crappy mixer, some cheap second-hand vinyl and a passion for good solid, house music

What was the first club you ever played at?

My first gig was at Neighbourhood, Ladbroke Grove,in London.Played the warm-up set for Mylo

What was your first record/cd you bought?

N.W.A. “Straght outta Compton” about 20 something years ago!! (Wow, showing my age……)

Out of all the music you have, which track ‘never fails?'

All of my music never fails!! But seriously, I’ve got so many tracks that never fail, it all depends on the way the crowd’s moving as to what I’ll play….

What's your favourite track of all time?

Really hard to answer, but if I had a gun to my head I’d say “Intro” – Fred Falke & Alan Braxe

Funniest thing that ever happened while Dj’ing?

Just the usual stuff – ejecting the CD while the track’s playing……

Other DJs you rate?

Way too many to mention although Koen Groenveld and Ahmet Sendil are some of the best that I’ve seen…..

So how is the party scene in your eyes at the moment?

There’s a constant ebb and flow with the party scene at the moment. One minute hot, next minute, cold. I wish there was more consistency to it all but there are people out there trying their hardest to change this and at the moment they’re doing a great job producing quality nights with great crowds and acts, so for the moment, it’s warm and getting hotter!!

When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?

Spending time with my girl, photography, travelling, good food and producing music….

What advice would you give to up and coming DJs?

Find your own style and stick to it. What I mean is define yourself from the rest…..

Telefunken is Boffa and Cam, a music-mad pair playing up a storm on the turn-tables of Sydney and beyond.

With over 18 years combined DJ experience, the telefunken duo teamed up in 2005 after playing a gig together at the Slip Inn. They found their sounds were similar with a love for the deeper techy side of house. They found a natural groove with both their mixing and programming and above all were having a blast whilst still keeping the punters happy on the dance-floor.

After scoring their first residency on the Home Terrace, their deeper acid/tech sound has given them credibility whilst still rockin’ dance-floors across Sydney. Telefunken have since taken it out of Sydney to play at parties all over the world, San Francisco, Japan, Fiji, Nu Caledonia and closer to home in Melbourne, Brisbane, Noosa, Newcastle, Jindabyne, Wollongong and more.

“Telefunken blew my socks off. They're ace!” Mike Monday

Ben Morris has forged an inimitable reputation of late. Since joining the KINK team as weekly resident and national touring DJ, Ben has quite rightly been recognised as the musical driving force behind Kinks ongoing success. He is without doubt a rising star in the Australian dance music fraternity. Not only does he play regularly at The Garden, Slip Inn, Moulin Rouge and YU, but he also holds down a monthly residency at the famed Empire Hotel in Brisbane. With musical taste and diversity that spreads across electro, house, minimal tech and smatterings of breaks, his trademark sound is infectious, yet definitely impossible to pigeon hole. Testament to his undeniable technical ability, Ben in 2004 won the NSW heat of the Global Heineken Thirst DJ Competition. In 2005 Ben was voted 24th in the 2005 In the Mix Top 50 DJ competition after just 3 years on the scene. 2006 saw Ben enter the Festival circuit with prestigious bookings including the Boiler Room at Big Day Out, Good Vibrations and the Future Music Festival. His impressive International support list includes: Eric Morillo, Danny Howells, Desyn Massiello, Steve Angello, Tocadisco, Tom Neville, DJ Hyper, King Unique, Paul Woodford, Alex Kidd, Joey Negro, Jacques le Cont, Sharam Jey, Kiko, Yousef, Moguai, Spencer Parker, Lee Cabrera (NYC), Mark Knight, Chris Lum, Gene Farris and French Superstars Cassius, Bob Sinclar, DJ Falcon, David Guetta, David Duriez and Dimitri from Paris.
